I confess I am having extreme financial issues so working this summer is an imperative for my wallet. The treasure of a new school semester is imperative for my well being. I'm lucky to be with a wonderful teacher and a great group of students.
There is something to be said for the anticipation of a new beginning. The most important and enjoyable job I have is being a parent to a wonderfully quirky and exuberant man cub but working in a BLS class is right up there.
I wonder how many folk actually like their job?
Thanks for listening.

I wonder what a BLS classroom is?
ReplyDeleteI, too, am having financial issues. I continue to act and purchase as frugally as possible. Unfortunately, my "better half" though in the same boat financially, has a different view of how money should be used. Financial stress creates one of the great difficulties in our marriage - as it does in many marriages. My inability to earn as much as I was when we married (I was a full-time classroom teacher with a Masters degree) has caused some sore feelings towards me and some doubt that I'm really trying to rectify my employment status. While I have and am applying for every kind of education job for which I am qualified (including paraprofessional and substituting), as well as business jobs that match what I believe are my qualifications, he just doesn't believe I cannot walk out the door and find a job that pays $60,000/year.
Meanwhile, the brunt of our financial burden falls to him, and he feels it. I see ways to ease the burden, but they involve him cutting back on his extraneous spending, and that is another sore spot. Not an area of negotiation. Touchy.
Meanwhile, I plug along, tweaking my resume, writing letters (emails) to principals, and searching the internet for jobs between times when I'm scaling back our possessions in preparation to move (eventually - sooner than later)...and cleaning the house and performing other normal daily tasks.
Incidentally, when I was teaching in my own classroom...I loved my job- there is no greater reward than being a part of children learning about their world.
Good luck with your fiscal speedbump. I'll pray for it to turn around for for you soon. I would think an outstanding , such as yourself, would be highly sought after and valued.
ReplyDeleteBLS is Behavior and Learning Support. These young people have a chance it's just a matter not quitting on them. They are pretty good kids with troubled or worried minds. Most are ED and/or ADHD and/or with anxiety.
